Everyone has a breaking point. That was mine.

I stood in the middle of the ruins of what had once been my home, destroyed by the army I knew was coming but was powerless to stand up to. I'd sent my family away, but there was one I couldn't save, and he lay dead at my feet, while I somehow still breathed and lived.

The plague that nearly killed my sister, the attack on my father that left him incapacitated, my mother's breakdown, my husband going crazy, all the lies and deceit and political intrigue that turned my twin brother into my enemy... and then that.

People think I'm strong. After all, I’m the general’s daughter, and the only queen who ever commanded a dragon.

But I'm not. Not always.

[ There's really nothing to say to that... condolences will only come off sounding like platitudes. And while he knows the story, or at least as much as she's felt comfortable sharing with him, hearing it all laid out in sequence like this is something sobering. ]

It was the last thing he asked me. What my world was called. If Marcus traveled all the way from there when Khrista brought him and Ramis over. Then he got this look, and didn’t ask any more questions since then.

It’s exactly the look Arzei used to have when something gives him an idea, but he doesn’t want to talk about it.

[ Well... that's admittedly a little worrisome. Paris obviously had never met Arzei, and knows of him only through Nausy's recollection, but it's still a concerning precedent. ]

I don't want him to feel like he's going through this alone. We should talk to him again.
