Oh, I'm the closest thing to a friend Starscream has, don't mistake. But he hasn't had great experiences with humans in the past, so the fact that he's taken something of a shine to you is... intriguing. So! I'm here to learn more. What makes you tick?
i've had no reason to kill him? i mean i generally don't operate in that mode and i really only have a vendetta on one person which the commander is fully aware of
[ Is that part of it, too? She's not 100% honest but she's not trying to play them, either. ]
i only know what's on public record and what he's told me a few stories like when megatron tried to kill him
[ Knock Out's making it sound like there's so much more to Starscream than what anyone else actually knows, so of course she has to ask. And didn't he say he wanted to learn more about her? This is his chance. Information for information. ]
and what trine? his team? didn't he have an entire army to command or something?
The fact that I cannot just say "He's Starscream" and have you understand what I mean is frustrating. You have to understand what a fixture in the war he was.
[ At least the trine question is fairly straightforward to answer, even if the concept is a loaded one. ]
Starscream is a particular type of elite flier called a Seeker. Seekers are spark-coded to seek out a trine, forming a trio that becomes... more than a flight team, emotional supports as well. Both members of his trine were lost during the war.
huh that sounds like having a force meld with two other people that can get incredibly messy
[ Back at the Jedi academy she'd explored the idea, being more naturally attuned to Force melds thanks to her empathy, but nobody had been willing to actually give it a try, afraid that the experience would mess them up both mentally and emotionally. But this affirmation that other species have something similar... it's intriguing, to say the least. She'll have to find a way to test it at some point. ]
[ Knock Out's clearly thinking that one over. He had a medical file - an extensive one - on Starscream, but that's definitely off the table. Still, he should be able to put together something for Jane. ]
If he asks, you didn't get it from me.
Oh, they hardly got along except when they were flying, but that's just personalities. Still, Screamer's never been the same since.
Good, because I'll know exactly whom to use my saw blades on if it gets out.
Hm. Technically his trine core still functions, but it's not a purely biological function either. I would say the opportunity exists, but the will is far from there.
[ As someone who lost his own Conjunx, Knock Out knows the feeling. ]
There's a pause as she considers whether to let him in on the secret. But, well, since he's Starscream's physician anyway? And he's also giving him all this information freely. It's really a fair trade. ]
wish i could say it's out of the goodness of my heart but kyber is a resource the first order can do without i just truly hope the galaxy's better off with it in your hands instead
Indubitably. You'll see for yourself when you arrive.
[ Since Knock Out has been appointed lead medic on the Hot Spot, they'll likely be spending time in each other's company. At least Jane will find him a willing conversation partner, unlike Starscream. ]
I suppose I should get back to work, then. But this has been a very enlightening conversation.

i'm pretty sure it's not my jokes
[ She knows she can use the Force to have her way with people, but she's not attempted that on Starscream or any of the Cybertronians. ]
and i didn't make a good first impression either

But there still must be something. How much do you know about him, anyway?

Is that right? Vendettas are excellent personality traits, they make people interesting.
Which time? Doesn't matter, I suppose. He tried to kill Megatron more times than the reverse, in any case.
Word of advice, though: don't bring up his trine.

poor guy
so is a trine a once-in-a-lifetime thing?

that's very interesting
only seekers have trines?
no subject
Only Seekers have trine cores. I've seen other fliers use the term loosely, but it's a purely social construct for them.
[ This is all well and good for Jane learning about Starscream, but Knock Out is supposed to be learning about her at the same time. ]
Why did you agree to help us? And don't say because the Council made you both advocates from our respective species.

You know what we're using it for.

it's still better than what the first order will use it for
