It had been an hour of debate, not heated, but not entirely calm either, and a lot of K2 offering numbers instead of actual opinions before they had come to the decision that they really couldn't go back to the Rebellion, partly because returning alive would undermine everything they'd done, but also because they couldn't be entirely sure they weren't already there, and certainly the chances of having crossed into an entirely different dimension where they already existed was infinitesimally small, but it was still a possibility.
The decision was made that they could still help, just not as directly as they had been. Which meant they were going to have to reinvent themselves which wasn't going to be all that easy, given as how it wasn't like they were easy to miss or mistake for someone else, and that meant they were going to need to get themselves well and away from where they were now.
Which was where the next problem cropped up: transportation. They no longer had a ship, or easy access to one, nor could they risk relying on somewhat rusty pickpocketing skills, or more direct threats or even an entirely direct hijacking. Which was what -in a sort of roundabout way- had led to Kay's utterly incredulous: "You want to indebt yourself and me as labor for passage on the first ship leaving the system?"
and now it's afternoon instead of morning because I was busy doing some adulting
