set in the collective
(Star Ocean 3 x King of Bandits Jing) universe
HOW TO PLAY:
1. Toplevel your character.
2. Choose or RNG a prompt from the list below. Add starters, indicate prefs. Or not. It’s up to you.
3. Reply to others.
4. Lather, rise, repeat.
5. Have fun! Don’t worry too much about the setting or the universe-specific details. But if you do have questions, ask away here! ♥
PROMPTS:
1. COFFEE DATE ‣ You’re in Surferio. It’s like Venice, only more old-school. Very green. The houses are more like huts, and they’re connected by wooden bridges. And the city’s teeming with all sort of humanoids — a Featherfolk here, a Menodix there. Watch out for the Lousyds in the water!
One of the city’s newest attractions is a cozy little café, said to serve the best pumpkin and ginger pies. And potato donuts. If you’re lucky, the chef will be in; he’s said to be terribly cute, with his trademark red bandanna and black wings. If not, his wife will surely be around, or at least one of his two charming daughters.
2. BAR BRAWL ‣ Kirlsa is a sleepy little mining town. The action’s mostly contained in the large manor in the middle of the area, which is not only the Count’s home, but also the headquarters of the Storm Brigade, Airyglyph’s cavalry division.
Tonight, though, the town’s modest tavern is abuzz with activity. The soldiers are out to party, including their more notorious cousins from the Black Brigade, the heavy cavalry unit based at the nearby Training Facility. One can expect trouble sooner or later, however; the two divisions don’t exactly get along.
3. DRAGON DANCE ‣ Congratulations! You didn’t die from what was essentially a battle with an air dragon, so now you’re a member of the Dragon Brigade, Airyglyph’s elite military force. From this point onward you and the dragon are partners — go ahead, name him/her — and you will have all sorts of adventures! Fancy a scouting mission? Go randomly exploring? Or would you like a special assignment from the King himself?
4. MAGIC SCHOOL ‣ The queens of the rival kingdoms of Airyglyph and Aquaria have launched their special joint project, the Center for Runological Studies, a magic school situated in Aquaria’s capital city of Aquios. And you are among its first batch of lucky students!
Excited? You probably will be, if you’re from Aquaria. Runology is in your blood. You probably even know a spell or two by now. Nervous? If you’re from Airyglyph, you should be. This is new territory; Glyphians are soldiers, not sorcerers. But you must have talent, if you’ve made it here?
5. PRISON BREAK ‣ You’re in a high-security military facility. A state-of-the-art, very modern prison, reserved for the most dangerous of enemies of the Pangalactic Federation. You’re one of the prisoners, or one of the guards, or one of the infiltrators — either way, whoever you are, you’re inside when the breaking out happens. Sound the alarm!
6. UNDER SIEGE ‣ The enemy is at the gates! Greeton’s invasion of Airyglyph has begun, and the mech army is now arriving at the capital. Imagine giant robots, able to shoot fire out of their arms, climbing up a fortified city built on the face of a mountain. Airyglyph’s strategic location has protected the kingdom from being invaded in the past — but not today.
The city’s in chaos. The evacuation order has been given, but most of the kingdom’s forces have been deployed to ground zero several days ago, and have been subsequently annihilated. The remaining soldiers are doing the best they can, but it looks like all is lost; even the queen seems to have accepted that, as she watches impassively from the castle balcony.
7. MYSTERIOUS EGG ‣ What’s that? An egg? Why is there a name and a crown symbol on it? You take it home, and sometime later it hatches... into some sort of animal. Is it a bird? A cat? A dog?
Even stranger, you’ll soon be able to do tricks with your new friend. Latching on to some part of your body, you can then fire balls of energy and cause explosions. Where will this new power and partnership take you?
8. INFILTRATION MISSION ‣ The mech army has one weakness: a central computer coordinating and controlling its movements. Your mission is to infiltrate the kingdom of Greeton, find the computer and shut it down. It should be fairly easy, but... your team isn’t exactly in good shape. Not just physically; you don’t all get along, either.
9. ROYAL PARTY ‣ Welcome to Quentão, a shining white palace built atop a waterfall. You don’t remember how you got here, but here you are, in a nexus of worlds. The palace is not just exquisite, it’s stunningly magical. You won’t see any servants, but the place is squeaky clean. And it seems to be able to anticipate your needs. Tired? Oh, look, there’s a chair that wasn’t there before. Hungry? Go to the lavish dining hall and food will magically appear.
Even better, there seems to be a party going on! A pretty extravagant one, too. The main hall is bustling with activity, and just outside it is a fancy fountain with strangely mesmerizing rainbow-colored water. Huh.
10. HOLY HEIST ‣ So an important ancient relic just got stolen. Or is being stolen. Either way, it’s important, and you’re definitely going to lose it at some point, because it’s being taken by no less than the Bandit King. What are you going to do? Chase after the thief? Call the cops? Break down sobbing? Offer a sacrifice to the gods and pray that they smite him?

Questions?
Nita Callahan | Young Wizards
9 because what could go wrong with a party
Straight into the fountain.
Some of the guests are startled, but they don’t really have to be, because Ilda’s head surfaces a moment later. And she’s, well, laughing. ]
Woohoo!
EVERYTHING.
Something had been bothering Nita about the water all this time, though.
Hence why she was at the edge of the fountain, trying to gauge what was wrong through wizardry-based senses alone.
And thus, is now currently soaked.]
Hey!
A warning would've been nice!
[She'll recognize you in a second, Ilda.]

Hans Westergaard | Frozen
1 was tempting but i'm going with 9!
But the rich, extravagant party she's found herself in the midst of is different. There's something about royalty that's different from the sort of wealthy environment she's familiar with. Something magical and whimsical that she can't help but be drawn in by. She can't even bring herself to want to ask how she found herself here -- it's like a dream she doesn't want wake up from, and questions would likely only cause that.
After helping herself to plenty of food (as well as drinks to quench her thirst), Tori is prepping up to return to main hall where all the action is (and maybe catch another glimpse of that amazing fountain in the process.) There's just one problem -- she bumps into someone on the way back.]
Shit--! [Okay, she knows cussing isn't really proper in settings like this, but old habits die hard -- especially habits she developed to spite the things she's been told not to do.] Sorry about that, are you okay?
YAY!
But HEY that’s looking like a really delicious chocolate fountain, and the young prince finds himself unable to resist the temptation. He politely excuses himself from the dignitary he’s run into, then makes a beeline for the dessert buffet table.
Only to bump into a girl who also hasn’t been looking both ways when she’d crossed the party street.
He is quick to regain his footing, though, and just as quick to reach out a hand to steady the stranger — who somehow ends up cursing in a very unladylike fashion. He smiles, faintly amused. You don’t see that every day. ]
No, I’m sorry, I wasn’t really looking. [ His smile turns sheepish as he tilts his head to indicate the chocolate fountain. ] Got distracted. Are you alright?

Marjoly | Marl Kingdom
And 10! OMG someone steal the Shadow of Beauty from her castle please, she’ll freak out! XD ]
10! Just cause!
omg ilu *o*
So there's now some sort of chase going on, and the kitties are moving like a cute harmless little mob, trailing after Dohko.
And then, poof! The nearest doorway is suddenly smoking (literally), and within it a silhouette of a smoking (figuratively) woman appears.
"Who dares to steal my precious treasure?!"
XD I was gonna ask which one you wanted to do but then I saw that prompt.
/cue Evil Queen XD

Jacen Solo | Star Wars Legends
Khrista Leinne Traydor | SPV (OC)
[ A thirteen-year-old girl is manning the counter. She has black hair and crystalline blue eyes — although you can’t really see those eyes too clearly because she seems to be busy reading something. Most people won’t recognize what it is she’s reading from, but if you’re from offplanet, or from some other modern dimension... it’s definitely some sort of smartphone. And she might not actually be reading. More of, well, texting. Maybe even watching videos.
She hardly looks up when a customer approaches, asking distractedly: ] Hi welcome may I take your order?
5 ‣
[ Khrista, now 16, is one of the infiltrators. She’s tiny for her age, but don’t let her petite figure deceive you. While a taller, more muscular blonde teenager is in command of the mission, Khrista is the one of those getting things done on the field. She’s fiery, fearless. And a pretty good shot with a blaster.
She clears out the way for you, shooting several soldiers waiting along the corridor. She pulls up her visor, her blue eyes bright in the dim light of the prison facility. ] Go, go!
8 ‣
[ At 23, Khrista is still petite, but her blue eyes are sharper, her overall demeanor more composed, more confident. This time, she’s leading the mission; the blonde girl from years ago has long been gone now.
You can see the determination in her eyes... and the desperation. This mission is critical, and everyone knows it. Greeton’s mech army has conquered nearly the entire continent, destroying towns and cities in its wake.
But for her, the stakes are higher. More personal. The mechs are closing in on Aquios, the rebels’ last stronghold, and the rebel army is terribly outnumbered and outclassed.
The rebel leader is her lover. ]
Fiammetta Nox | SPV (OC)
[ A tavern isn’t a place for a kid, but there Fia is, sitting by a table in a corner with a couple of old soldiers. She’s sipping something that’s clearly not beer or wine, and she’s doing so with the grace of someone who’s obviously noble-born, dressed though she is as a soldier.
She’s only 14, but she’s tall and lanky, and pretty. She probably would’ve been a dancer, if she hadn’t been born into a very military family. In fact, the weapons she‘s carrying — a bow across her back, a dagger tucked into her belt — hardly make her look threatening.
Over all the noise, she hears someone say “the general’s daughter” and she promptly ducks her head, as if it would help her disappear into the crowd. ]
9 ‣
[ A decade older now, Fia walks quietly through the palace halls, eyes darting around, searching. The war’s clearly taken a toll on her, yet even so, she’s stunningly pretty, albeit a little rough around the edges. Then again, after all those years of fighting and surviving, who isn’t? She’s lucky to have lived through the worst of it, even managing to settle down and have a family of her own.
She’s holding a letter, and while it’s not immediately visible, a closer look would reveal a very important seal on the parchment. It’s from the king of New Aquor... but why would His Majesty summon the general’s wife, instead of the man himself? ]
10 ‣
[ Fia bursts into the room, and while she’s clearly in a hurry, bearing urgent news, she has years and years of practiced grace that she appears a lot calmer than she really is. She’s nearly forty, but time has been kind to her.
Still unable to speak, not since that plague that struck Airyglyph when she was thirteen, she signs, and mouths at the same time: ] The Orb. It’s been stolen.
Nevelle Robert Leingod | SPV (OC)
[ Perhaps it's unintentional, but pre-designated seating seems to be a thing in the first years' classroom. Although few, the Glyphians are huddled together in the back rows, most of them nervous and uncomfortable, and looking quite unprepared in comparison to their Aquarian counterparts in the front rows, all armed with scrolls and parchments and magical paraphernalia.
There's even a VIP section of sorts, frontmost and center. There are only two seats, in fact, and on one of them sits Nero, a gangly fourteen-year-old rumored to be a prodigy among the new generation of runologists. He's a little too engrossed with sketching runes at the moment, though. ]
Heitor Valeros | SPV (OC)
[ The rescue team stands stumped in front of a massive, thick door. They’ve managed to navigate through the Federation’s labyrinth of a prison, evading capture or triggering any alarms, but now they’ve come to a dead end.
The girls start arguing. Amber, tall and blonde and beautifully toned and obviously the one in command, insists that they must’ve taken a wrong turn somewhere. Khrista, pretty and petite and surprisingly well-adjusted for someone hailing from a backwater planet, counters that there wouldn’t be an impregnable door like the one before them if there isn’t anyone important they’re trying to keep in.
Heitor purses his lips for a moment, then moves to the console just beside the door. The girls gasp as he reaches out to touch it; he stops to give them a small smile. ]
Trust me.
[ He doesn’t bother cracking the code. Instead, he places his palm on the device, and closes his eyes.
And then there’s a soft click. ]
Marc Albert | SPV (OC)
[ It’s a strange sensation, to know that you’re in a dream when it all feels so real. Marc can definitely feel the earth trembling beneath his feet as the mechamen enter the city, monstrous metal figures trampling buildings and people indiscriminately.
There’s chaos all around him; people running, shouting, crying. His people, because just as he’s sure that he’s in a dream, he‘s also sure that he’s in Airyglyph, somehow reliving the day that haunted his mother for years.
He looks up towards the castle, and sure enough he sees her on the balcony — Nausicaa, the Traitor Queen, looking on with a frigid expression he’s never, ever seen on her before. And he starts to run, towards her, towards the castle, as if he could still save her from the tragedy that’s about to unfold. ]
10 ‣
[ Marc sighs, wondering how he manages to keep getting talked into adventures like this. All he really wanted was to visit the world of his birth, to connect with his roots... but he seems to have gotten himself into more trouble than he’d originally anticipated.
Hearing shouts from a distance, he holds his sword up, ready for a fight but not really looking forward to one. ]
Uh, guys? I think we’re about to have company.
Sheifa Li | Cardcaptor Sakura (CRAU) | SPV
[ The redhead is alone in the tavern that evening, with only a mug of beer for company. It‘s impossible to miss the bored expression on her face; there is, after all, only so much one can do in a sleepy medieval mining town.
It‘s not that nobody wants to hang out with her. She's only been in Kirlsa for a few months, but she‘s already quite popular and well-liked - everyone in town knows the story of how she'd defended young Mayu from a drunk Black Brigade soldier, and that she‘s officially the first noblewoman to join the Storm Brigade. But her ties — both personal and political — intimidated people, and generally made them uncomfortable around her. And who wouldn’t be? Cecilia Fermina is the niece of Count Woltar, Lord of Kirlsa. She‘s friends, on a first-name basis, with Queen Rozaria. And she‘s rumored to be betrothed to General Albel Nox, the commander-in-chief of the Glyphian military.
She pokes her mug halfheartedly, sighing. The thrill of her new life’s gone; has all this been a mistake? Should she just have returned to her own world, and to the gruesome fate that awaited her? ]
Iohannes Boislevesque | SPV (OC)
[ One of Iohannes’ favorite pasttimes is hanging out in a bar with his fawning admirers and recounting his exploits during the Greeton expedition. He’s doing that now, loud enough for the entire tavern to hear, while being sufficiently drunk. Several starry-eyed girls are cozying up to him, but he almost doesn’t seem to realize they’re there. ]
Bohnleid Junior is all talk and pomp and no spine. Guess that’s why he needs to marry Nausicaa, so at least there’s someone in the royal household with balls. Her brother is a wimp, though; I swear, Marcus is only in the Storm Brigade because he’s not good enough to get in anywhere else. [ A beat, smirking. ] Women included.
[ Soldiers normally aren’t so openly critical about their superiors — or their superiors’ families — but he’s an entitled brat and has always gotten away with his elitist attitude. Still, his words plunge the tavern into a tense, uncomfortable silence; he seems to have forgotten that Kirlsa is the Storm Brigade’s stronghold, and the Noxes are well-loved there.
The others from the Black Brigade laugh, but it only intensifies the brewing storm in the air. ]

Lander Divins | OC
4 • fast-forwarded things a bit to Heyl’s time :>
It used to hold some sort of elite status, where the best and brightest runologists (and aspiring runologists) were trained. After the last war, however, runology was lost to the world, and those who were born with it afterwards were, well... treated with a mix of reverence and revulsion. Reverence because they were thought to be the gods reborn. Revulsion because the gods had tried to destroy the world in that last war.
The ‘first’ of the new generation sat on the footsteps of the castle entrance, scowling. Heylel had not wanted this life, had not wanted the stigma of being born with runology, but it had happened and there was nothing else he could do but roll with it. Part of rolling with it was going to the Center to learn how to control his powers. As if that was the problem.
And Lander is aged down as needed to fit in with the student age group!
