OPEN RP POST • STAR WARS MINGLE ⭐️

whatever it is you've been doing
you are now in Canto Bight!

That's right. It's just like those jamjar games. One moment you're minding your own business, and then... poof!
You're in Canto Bight for no apparent reason.
(Or you've always wanted to be here, and you finally did it. Whatever, we're not the cops.)

That's not the weirdest part, though. Because you might be seeing double.
It's like the time-space continuum collapsed over the city
and now doubles and multiples of you or people you like hate want to kill know are appearing.
So go have fun with that!

HOW TO PLAY:
    • Toplevel your character. Different version/AU, different toplevel please.
    • Add a short background or link to an info post, and indicate prefs. TELL US WHAT KIND OF SHENANIGANS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. Shipping, smut, family reunions, dark side shenanigans, murder, a Ben Solo smackdown...
    • Troll Reply to others.
    • Lather, rise, repeat.
    • Please note that while the intent of this post is for characters from various Star Wars verses to mingle, you don't need a Star Wars character to play! All characters are welcome — characters AU'd into SW, characters having interacted with SW characters in games and memes, fandom OCs, ship babies, etc.
    • Have fun and be excellent to each other! ♥

Anakin was starting to remind him of Cassian, at least a little, the endless curiosity really, though Cassian was more quiet about his, more liable to just poke at things for answers instead of voicing the questions, Kay wasn't sure yet which he liked better.

"Nonstandard neural array, recovered from a memory wipe." He replied, matter-of-fact as he was about everything, "Other than that, industry standard. I suspect that if you have such a high regard for me, the droids you've been interacting with are sub-standard."

"That would explain it! Most people don't attempt recovery from a memory wipe, and use them to stop Droids from developing personality." If anything, that excites him more, considering Threepio.

"So many don't see Droids as anything but machines, when they are really much more."

"Recovery was incidental in maintaining functionality." He wasn't really sure why he was explaining, aside from the fact that he had no one else to talk to, and Anakin wasn't put off by him the way most of the Rebellion was just on account of what he was and where he was from, despite having been loyal to the cause for nearly a decade.

Of course, maintaining functionality was almost-but-not-quite a euphemism for retaining the information he would need to be able to pose as an Imperial droid again as necessary, but he wasn't going to let on about that, yet.

There was a moment of calculation before he asked: "So you're one of the activists?" He certainly sounded like the people campaigning for droid rights, though Cassian generally tried to keep Kay away from them for their sake less than Kay's.

"I'm familiar with that at least." He'd done that part often enough for Watto and later in building and rebuilding Droids at the Temple.

Although Kay has Anakin a little confused, "Activists? I don't think so?"
icanblendin: (can't even with you right now)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-07-16 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, the droids rights activists." That answer was an easy one, but Kay, being who he was, added: "They really aren't helping as much as they think they are, if anything they're making things worse."

It wasn't that Kay thought some droids were better than others, it was simply that he knew that some were designed with a single task and purpose -gonks for instance couldn't ever stand in for a protocol droid- whereas the droids rights activists thought they should all be treated equally, as fully-functioning beings.

"I-I haven't met any, as far as I know. They probably mean well." Anakin knew of people like them, for all the Hutt Cartel tried to get rid of them. "What should they be doing to help?" It seemed a similar issue to the people who tried to help free slaves by buying and freeing them - it helped a few people in that moment, but nothing long term and sometimes left the freed ones much worse off. And it still put money into the trafficking of people.

The same way he couldn't squint suspiciously, he also couldn't snort derisively, but he was just as good at mimicking that as he was at pulling off a squint, and he did have enough sense to know that now was not the time -and here was definitely not the place- for an out and out rant on the matter.

So he condensed his opinions, "Mostly they need to understand that a large percentage of droids, more than three-quarters, wouldn't even understand that they had rights if they were given." And a heavy sigh to go with the derisive snort followed, "They don't realize that a mouse droid, for instance, is only ever going to be good for making deliveries within a small radius."

"No, they wouldn't." Anakin sighed. "It's not an easy answer is it?" He liked easy answers, they lead themselves to action and action he understood. Complicated answers took time and reflection and stillness and he wasn't good at those. "You seem like you would, and some others. Shouldn't they have people like you at the lead?" People, Anakin meant, not just organic people. Some Droids were clearly people.
icanblendin: (angry face)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-07-22 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"That's another problem with these people, for all their talk of droid rights none of them have thought to consult droids who might actually know better how it should be done." At least, none of the ones Kay had been in contact with, it was all just another case of humans -and a few aliens- thinking they knew better.

"But no, it isn't an easy answer, nothing ever is." He paused then, "Except base ten mathematical systems, those answers are always easy. Base six isn't so difficult either."
turnedforher: (smile)

[personal profile] turnedforher 2019-07-22 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"People are like that with slave liberation too. They never consult people who are or were slaves. They think they just think they know better." Anakin couldn't help the bitterness that crept into his voice.

Although Kay's answer makes him laugh. "No, you're right. I knew base ten before I could read, and mastered base six before reading."
icanblendin: (standing in his corner)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-07-23 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
And just like that, Kay decided he liked this one, and he didn't like many people. Offhand he could only think of two that he actually liked -not counting Anakin- and a handful of others that he tolerated more than he did most people.

"Statistics are easier to deal with than people are." He added, giving what amounted to a shrug, a brief lifting of both hands in a half-helpless, 'what can you do?' kind of gesture, "That's where the easy answers are."

[personal profile] sithling 2019-07-23 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Anakin's friends as a child had always included Droids - he saw them, the ones he worked with, more often than he saw his other friends, because they were all slaves as well. Making friends with Kay just seemed natural.

"I prefer flying. It's like my ship and I become one, and just. It's so simple. People I'm...not always sure how. What to say." Obi-Wan tends to be critical of what he chose to say. Or do.
icanblendin: (staring into the distance)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-07-23 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
"That part's easy for me, I always say what I mean." Granted, sometimes he didn't say everything he wanted to say, but he never lied, and especially not about his opinions on things.

A quiet, almost inquisitive sound followed, "But I don't suppose it would be that easy for you." Because humans tended to worry about things like 'hurting each other's feelings' and that wasn't a problem Kay had.
sithling: (stop being moody)

[personal profile] sithling 2019-07-23 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm always grateful for that." Saying what he meant and being open about it - Anakin appreciated those.

But the quiet sound and the comment... "It used to be, when I was little. Now it just seems like I say the wrong thing all the time." Growing pains, Obi-Wan called them.
icanblendin: (can't even with you right now)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-07-23 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"So you're human." He replied, short and matter-of-fact, and not really meant as a comfort because that wasn't how he operated, but in his experience saying the wrong thing -or thinking they had- was universal among humans.

Some more than others, certainly, but it was definitely something they all had in common.

[personal profile] sithling 2019-07-26 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm a Jedi. Saying the wrong thing has consequences beyond that of most people. My Master says I fail to follow his lead, but he's wrong at times, and he says I focus on the wrong things." Anakin sighed.

"He'd probably tell me I should be investigating this city instead of taking to you but I'd rather be here." And he didn't feel the Force pushing him away beyond his intrinsic need to move or fidgit."
icanblendin: (wtf man?)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-07-27 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"You are?" That was... it was very nearly a tone of disbelief, because as far as Kay knew, the Jedi were all but extinct, along with most other Force-adherents, even on Jedha, not that Jedha was there anymore, either, but that was beside the point.

"I wasn't aware there were that many Jedi left." Probably not the right thing to say, but straight to the point because that was just how he operated.
sithling: (be still)

[personal profile] sithling 2019-07-31 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I am. There's...what?" Anakin was thoroughly confused. "Jedi are centered on Coruscant, but we're a decent size within the Republic."

Perhaps this is why he felt safe talking with Kay. There was something he needed to know.
icanblendin: (who's flying this thing?)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-08-03 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes." He nodded, "Hunted to extinction over the past twenty years." It had been a little less than that, but no one who hadn't been directly involved with the beginning of it knew for sure when it had started, "Or nearly to extinction, it seems."

It didn't yet occur to him that he might be altering a timeline by saying so, mostly because it hadn't yet occurred to him that they were from different realities even despite the fact that he knew he'd 'died' before arriving here.
