OPEN RP POST • STAR WARS MINGLE ⭐️

whatever it is you've been doing
you are now in Canto Bight!

That's right. It's just like those jamjar games. One moment you're minding your own business, and then... poof!
You're in Canto Bight for no apparent reason.
(Or you've always wanted to be here, and you finally did it. Whatever, we're not the cops.)

That's not the weirdest part, though. Because you might be seeing double.
It's like the time-space continuum collapsed over the city
and now doubles and multiples of you or people you like hate want to kill know are appearing.
So go have fun with that!

HOW TO PLAY:
    • Toplevel your character. Different version/AU, different toplevel please.
    • Add a short background or link to an info post, and indicate prefs. TELL US WHAT KIND OF SHENANIGANS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. Shipping, smut, family reunions, dark side shenanigans, murder, a Ben Solo smackdown...
    • Troll Reply to others.
    • Lather, rise, repeat.
    • Please note that while the intent of this post is for characters from various Star Wars verses to mingle, you don't need a Star Wars character to play! All characters are welcome — characters AU'd into SW, characters having interacted with SW characters in games and memes, fandom OCs, ship babies, etc.
    • Have fun and be excellent to each other! ♥

[Dear Force, a month and a half later (I'M SO SORRY), here I am! I'm sorry to say I let some drama elsewhere take away my RP drive/enjoyment for a while. I think I'm back… and if you're still around and remotely interested, would you like to continue this thread, or start a new one, or jump to a new chapter in *this* one, or… anything, whatsoever? :-) I understand COMPLETELY if not—I would have given up on hearing on me and put me out of mind, if I were you! If that's the case, this tag is just to thank you for an absolutely fantastic thread, and to compliment your wonderful Kaytoo :-) ~ M ]

[As someone who's been there, no apologies needed, honest. I'd be down for any of the above, honestly, continue, skip ahead to the next stage, start something else entirely. I'm easy that way!
I have also just flung you a friend request over on Plurk for ease of conversating.]

[personal profile] candor1 2019-11-24 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
[YAY! Thank you and hurray! :-D

Friended! :-) The drama happened on plurk so I've been staying away for a while—if you ever want to reach me more quickly than I'm checking plurk, PMs to this journal will get my attention!

Is there any new direction/development/setting/anything that'd interest you with these two? :) I can certainly see them commandeering a ship… maybe getting into a somewhat vigilante lifestyle…? That's just my first thought, I'm not married to anything.]
icanblendin: (wtf man?)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-11-24 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
[It does tend to happen there, like, to an inordinate amount, but until something better comes along I'm still there.

And now I just cracked up at the idea of them falling into the 'wrong' timeline and becoming well-meaning mercs. Mostly because it's the kind of thing they'd do.]

[personal profile] candor1 2019-11-24 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Ditto! It's nice to hear someone else say so… I've always disliked the plurk interface, rife for misunderstanding I think; but it's where the cool kids are. ;-) And I do like having a dedicated space for this RP world.

Hehe! For sure! I don't know if they'd steal a ship… maybe try to repair/cobble together their own in a city dump IDK?]
icanblendin: (that's a bad idea)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-11-24 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Or 'rescue' one from an impound lot. It's not stealing if it's just going to be sold off for parts or whatever, this is obviously good logic and Kay won't hear any arguments to the contrary.

I mean, he'd also be fine being allowed to use his predictive analytics and whatnot to just win them some money to buy one of the impound auction ships.]

[personal profile] candor1 2019-11-24 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Oooh, that's a better idea. Makes sense -- your specialty is just strategic analysis… ;-)

HAHA oh that's also a fun thought…!]
icanblendin: (he tol)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-11-24 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Which still requires multiple levels of risk assessment and statistical outcome probability matrices. I mean, never said he'd be GOOD at it, it's like the orc rogue dumping all their points into intimidation vs. actual stealth, so that 'YOU CAN'T SEE ME!' actually works.

But he'd definitely be better at just y'know, liberating one than getting the moneys to buy one.]

[Omigosh, I LOVE that tale ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

Yes, agreed! Lessee… I can see picking up where we left off to get into that line of planning, or we could jump ahead…? I'm eager to do whatever you want to do, if you have the slightest preference!]
icanblendin: (angelic backlighting)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-11-24 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
[I figure a bit of a jump-ahead would work best, summarize what they got up to in the meanwhile and pick up from wherever, getting in to 'borrow' a ship, already having done so and deciding wtf they're actually going to do next since it isn't like they're really that inconspicuous in general or whatever else.]

[I'm about to toddle off to bed, so if you've got an idea, go for it! Otherwise I'll whack something together in the actual-morning.

[Bed is a very good idea. I'm probably about to follow suit. 'Til morning, then!!

Oooh nifty! /checks out link :-) /

Thank you again for being understanding and awesome! I'm looking forward to scening with you again :-) ]
icanblendin: (whaaaat?)

and now it's afternoon instead of morning because I was busy doing some adulting

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-11-24 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It had been an hour of debate, not heated, but not entirely calm either, and a lot of K2 offering numbers instead of actual opinions before they had come to the decision that they really couldn't go back to the Rebellion, partly because returning alive would undermine everything they'd done, but also because they couldn't be entirely sure they weren't already there, and certainly the chances of having crossed into an entirely different dimension where they already existed was infinitesimally small, but it was still a possibility.

The decision was made that they could still help, just not as directly as they had been. Which meant they were going to have to reinvent themselves which wasn't going to be all that easy, given as how it wasn't like they were easy to miss or mistake for someone else, and that meant they were going to need to get themselves well and away from where they were now.

Which was where the next problem cropped up: transportation. They no longer had a ship, or easy access to one, nor could they risk relying on somewhat rusty pickpocketing skills, or more direct threats or even an entirely direct hijacking. Which was what -in a sort of roundabout way- had led to Kay's utterly incredulous: "You want to indebt yourself and me as labor for passage on the first ship leaving the system?"
candor1: (Yavin . crate)

D'aw, adulting, who wants that? ;-) It's splendid! Muchas gracias!

[personal profile] candor1 2019-11-25 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Cassian spread his hands. "It's not an uncommon starting place." For whatever they were preparing themselves to become now. Smugglers? Bounty hunters? Vigilantes? …Freelancers. "Unless you think we can find a wreck we're capable of patching to space-worthy again, in the city dump. Or have some other better idea."
icanblendin: (can't even with you right now)

I mean, people who want to be able to make dinner, I guess?

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-11-25 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Cassian." It was an entire sentence, response and statement all in one word.

Of course, he knew that the man was going to need more than that, which was why he actually said: "Why would we go to that kind of trouble when there's an impound lot full of perfectly serviceable ships at the far side of the racetrack?" It was a well-guarded impound lot, but they'd talked their way into well-guarded places before, and sometimes they'd even managed not to get caught.
candor1: (candid . somber . to GE)

D'aw, dinner, who wants—? Nah, nevermind, that's a good point. ;-)

[personal profile] candor1 2019-11-25 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
The edge of Cassian's mouth quirked in a smile at the one-word rebuke. He crossed his arms to wait for more.

That was a better idea… but—even lacking Kay's superfast calculating ability—Cassian's mind went to the same place. "Not sure our current state will be conducive to talking our way in, this time." He hesitated, doing his own (slower) calculations. "Same play might be worth trying… gambling-wrecked, hung-over millionaire and bodyguard." Would explain Cassian's complete lack of gear and incomplete wardrobe: someone who'd been betting beyond his means for more than a night. "Make ourselves such a frustrating headache, complaints and demands, they bend regulations just to get rid of us."
icanblendin: (y u all so short?)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-11-25 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Enough time within range and I'll be able to correct their manifests." Kay wasn't a slicer, but sometimes there was some dangerous overlap in his skills, and that meant that if Cassian could stall them long enough without becoming enough of a nuisance to get dropped in the drunk tank, they'd be home free.

Or at least off-planet and mostly free which was close enough to the same thing.

"Is there a particular model you think would suit us?" He was fairly sure that they were mostly going to be pleasure yachts and small transport shuttles, maybe with a few others thrown in, depending on who'd needed collateral against a debt.
candor1: (Yavin . Jyn . down)

[personal profile] candor1 2019-12-03 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Outmoded. Something the owner's just been looking for an excuse to replace." It was urban legend that some gamblers brought the ships to Canto Bight that they wanted stolen, for the insurance write-off. That would certainly be the best way for the thief not to get tracked down for it.

Cassian heaved a sigh and got to his feet. This was not his favorite kind of ploy. "All right. To do this properly, I should get a bottle of something." Slosh enough over himself to reek of alcohol; leave enough in the bottle to splash all over the guards when he waved it at them. Weaponize disgust; lingering distraction.
icanblendin: (he tol)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-12-05 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Kay nodded, already running through the listings at the impound, because of course that was information he'd already picked up from his first dip into the systems to confirm the date, "Berth E-38, cargo shuttle, modified, formerly short-range." Which was to say it was more or less what they were used to.

A thoughtful buzz, not quite a hum followed as if the next calculation actually took an effort, "Depending on how robust their security is, the replacement may take as much as five minutes, can you stall that long without getting arrested?" There was something like amusement in the question, the same near-deadpan as 'a lot of noise for two people just blending in' because he was well aware of Cassian's track record, and while two or three minutes was usually doable -and the information update might only take that long- any longer than that was where things got dicey.
candor1: (Uwing . I'm not the one . smile)

[personal profile] candor1 2019-12-05 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
Cassian gave (what felt like the first in a long time) a lopsided smile. "One way to find out." Threading such needles was, theoretically, one of his specialties.

(Theoretically? Since when? He'd proven it, multiple times.

…but that was PRO. Pre-Rogue-One.

Pre-Jyn.

Pre-having that casement around himself crack and shatter. He hadn't thought about whether he'd ever be able to lie like that again. He hadn't expected to find out. He wasn't supposed to survive.

Okay. Shh. Later.)

Cassian rapped his knuckles lightly against Kay's side as he passed him, en route to some promising-looking crates. The third one he checked had what he was looking for: bottles of Corellian brandy.

His mouth twisted a little, not readable to most beings in the galaxy; perfectly readable to Kaytoo. A grimace of guilty self-disgust. But Cassian didn't let it go further than that before handing the bottle to Kay. "Ymya might be fine giving us more than she already has, but I don't want to test it. You smuggle this out?"
icanblendin: (standing in his corner)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-12-06 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
A bottle was a little more difficult to secure than a compact blaster, but he managed, because he definitely recognized that expression and it was one that he always hoped to see less of, since he knew never seeing it again was so small a chance as to be considered impossible.

"The ship is currently registered to a Jovie Breagle, luckily human, that will save some time." If he only had to change an ident photo as opposed to everything it would pare down time needed. Another thoughtful buzz followed, nearly a hum, "There is a room connected to the records and two tournament games yesterday. No movement for the past twelve hours." No room service orders, no registering for tournaments, apparently not leaving -or perhaps not having returned to- the room in question.

There would be a risk there, and Kay took a moment to calculate the risk/reward balance of just replacing the registry wholecloth with one of Cassian's usual aliases versus just changing the picture and forging a check-out plus payoff for the shuttle. Finally what he concluded was, "It will be easier to just claim their identity, but more of a risk if it doesn't work as intended."
candor1: (illus . Wecacoe . Kay)

[personal profile] candor1 2019-12-08 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Let's give it a go. Any other details on Breagle?" Whatever Cassian could absorb was one less trap to fall into if quizzed.

Cassian took a moment to look at Kay. Their partnership was, he had to remind himself, mutually beneficial. Under the auspices of Cassian's "ownership", Kay… well… could not just hold a position and have certain access, but could have a continuous existence, at all. Not constantly repossessed and reprogrammed or slagged for parts. An existence Kay hopefully liked, too. He hadn't even been a fully realized individual while slaved to the Empire's programming. Cassian had to remind himself of these things… because he often felt like he'd just conscripted Kay to himself, instead; swapped himself in for the Empire. There were… differences, of course. But… When Kay did so much for him, made so many things possible, and how much did Cassian really do, back…?

Cassian tried to never express these thoughts to Kay. Not that Kay couldn't guess or extrapolate. Especially when, once or twice, when Cassian's cover identity had made it impossible for him to get out of taking intoxicants, and another time when he'd been straight-up dosed; he'd said something after all.

Right now, again in light of whatever they'd gone through, Cassian said something, again. Just facts, this time. He murmured, "If you weren't here, I'd probably have to live on the streets for a month." …But still: gratitude.
icanblendin: (can't even with you right now)

[personal profile] icanblendin 2019-12-10 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Probably." He agreed, matter-of-fact as ever, "But it wouldn't be for that long." Just however long it took for Cassian to get used to running one-man grifts again instead of two.

But, because Kay was who he was, statistics and facts were easier than explaining, and Cassian had asked a question, so he was going to answer it, "Breagle seems to show a preference for games that are mostly chance. The two tournaments he signed up for were mid-stakes. The first was a game of Seven Sisters, though they call it Seven Brides here the rules are virtually the same. The second one was for Flock of Birds, which is a set up like memory tiles, but every few turns, based on the number of players remaining, the tiles shuffle, making it as much luck as skill."

It was possible of course that the man did prefer games of skill and only played those that were mostly chance when there was an audience, but Kay calculated that was unlikely, "Broke even on the wheel of fortune between tournaments."

A little shake of his head followed, "We can presume he's eaten, but nothing has been charged to his room." Which probably just meant that any meals had been purchased with his winnings before they'd been converted to room credit.
