Hannah who is absolutely positively not up to anything unusual

A family vacation had been Jane's idea, and Hannah's glad it worked out, but she'd forgotten how much trickier work could be when she didn't have the benefit of slipping away on a business trip. Throughout the trip Hannah repeatedly steps away to 'take a phone call' - or a variety of other excuses to be elsewhere.

She tries to be around as much as she's able to, making sure everyone sees her relaxing and having a good time so that she can, in fact, say that she was having a fun time on vacation. Despite her best efforts, Hannah's a little worried people are getting suspicious. Between the phone calls, going off on her own when the ship stops at a port, and the fact her coworker Chuy happens to also be on the trip, there's plenty of reasons to suspect something strange might be going on.

Once she starts to worry that people are going to think she's up to something, she makes even more of an effort to be visible to the family. To prove exactly how much fun she's having, Hannah starts her morning by finding a shady spot by the pool with a drink in one hand and a book in the other. As soon as anyone approaches, she lowers her book and offers a grin. "Take a seat, the pool is perfect until all the kids start to wake up."

“Was that Chuy?” Luke asks as he walks up to where Hannah’s seated, though he looks more confused than displeased. By now he’s used to his family deciding not to tell him things — like Jane and Aegon eloping, among many others — enough that all he really does is sigh and pinch the bridge of his nose.

He finds a spot beside his wife, scooting in instead of taking up another seat entirely. For all that they argued and bickered, they did love each other, and having already had a few days into the cruise, he’s started to relax, becoming a bit more natural around her and the rest of the family.

He peers at the cover of her book, then raises an eyebrow. “Didn’t know you read that stuff.”

"Yeah. Chuy likes cruises." She knows she's not answering the question he's really asking - of all the places he could go on vacation, why does he happen to be on the same trip they're on?

At no point in their relationship would Hannah ever use words like laid back to describe her husband, but he isn't always uptight she's glad he's relaxed more than usual. Hannah rests her head against his shoulder. She should have expected that he'd find a romance novel to be an odd choice for her, and she waves her hand dismissively. "It's vacation." In the future, when choosing a book to make it look like she's relaxing, perhaps she'll pick a book she actually wants to read.

She grins at him, changing the subject. "Aren't you glad I'm always right? This trip was one of my best ideas. The family's together, everyone is having a good time - even you. It's been a long time since we've taken a real vacation."

“Should I be worried?” Chuy’s her close friend from work, and knowing what work is... well. He supposes he does have the right to ask if he should be worried, because it’s not exactly a coincidence, is it?

He chuckles as she rests her head on his shoulder. “But, really, Hannah? 50 Shades of Grey?” He likes to think he knows her well enough by now, and he never would’ve guessed she’d be into that sort of trash. Unless she’s reading it for some girl bonding with their daughter.

At her mention of the trip, though, he can’t help rolling his eyes a little. “One, you’re not always right. Two, I seem to recall this one was Jane’s idea. Three, I’m not too sure Ben’s having a good time.” But then again, he’s never seen their son having a good time. “But you are right about one thing: it’s been a while. When was it, before Jane went to college?”

"Everything's under control," she reassures him softly, though it's hardly answering his question and she elaborates: "I'm not worried. It's pretty run-of-the-mill. I wouldn't have let everyone come along if I was worried." But truthfully there's always a chance of a mission going sideways. When and if it's time to worry, she'll let him know.

Hannah's gone a little pink at his teasing about the book. "it's not very good." she presses a kiss to his cheek, and falls back on the comfortable pattern of returning the teasing. "I'd rather have you than Christian Grey. Nothing to be jealous about, Senator." There's zero chance he's jealous of a fictional character in a bestselling bodice ripper, but there's a much bigger chance that saying he's jealous will annoy him, and that's one of her favorite pastimes.

"It was Jane's suggestion but she was talking to me when she made it which means I helped." Does it, though, or is this some more circular Solo logic? "Ben doesn't seem unhappier than usual. I think he's enjoying himself." But it is hard to tell.

She nods to his question. "They grew up so fast." Now it's just Hannah and Luke (and Chewie!) at home, and that still feels a little strange even if they've had time to adjust to it. Having the kids around felt so familiar - especially since most of their time together as a couple had involved children. "I'm glad she's back, and Ben's around." She's missed having them close by. "You're having a good time, aren't you?"
