She’s sitting by the counter of the bar, sipping a fruit shake as she watches the people going about. It’s not that she’s bored; during her travels she’s always enjoyed just hanging around local joints and making new friends, and that’s not about to change anytime soon. Married or not. Pregnant or not. Probably just without the flirting, unless it’s with the father of her children.
Though she doesn’t consider herself a celebrity by any means, she‘s had a steadily growing Instagram fanbase since her Miss Earth days. That and in the past months she and her now-husband, both with fathers in the U.S. Senate, had caused quite a stir in social media, with their whirlwind romance and #couplegoals posts and lavish celebrity-grade wedding. So every now and then people do come up to talk to her, ask her if she’s Jane Organa-Targaryen, if it’s true that she met her husband through Tinder, how far along she is, if it’s a boy or a girl...
It’ll get annoying eventually, but one could also wind up with the most interesting of conversations. You’ll never really know.
“Galina?” Jane stares back in surprise, then lets out a hearty laugh. “Wow, you’re here! This is great!”
She turns to the bartender and signals for a drink — also a fruit shake — before shifting her attention back to her friend. “Who are you with? Is your dad here?”
"Yeah, got you one just like this." It's a mix of fruits. She's not sure what sort exactly, but it's a great blend and she might be starting to get a little addicted.
At the mention of weddings, Jane gushes. "I love weddings. Did you know I got married twice? To the same husband, of course." She laughs, fishing out her phone from her purse. "Tell your sis congratulations for me?"
Once Galina has her drink, she takes a sip with a straw. "Oooh, I can taste the strawberries and pineapple."
"Awwww I didn't know that." She nods, "My dad proposed to my mum five times. Finally she said yes right before he jumped out of a plane." A laugh, it's declassified knowledge. "Will do! It's very exciting, and weddings are fun!"
"Well, we were sure we're getting a fancy wedding because of our families, so we decided to elope. Drove to the Niagara for the weekend, then spent a few days in Tokyo afterwards," she admits with a giggle, scrolling through the photos on her phone then showing a couple to her friend. Okay, so she's luckier than most to be well-off enough for random trips abroad, and so is her husband, but they really only splurge on their travels and their dogs and occasionally their families. Like this vacation.
"But, okay, wow. Five times, really? And he jumped off a plane?" There's some serious admiration there, because, yeah, she skydives, but imagining Galina's dad... that's actually super cool. "Did your sister's fiance have to jump off a plane too?"
Hannah who is absolutely positively not up to anything unusual
A family vacation had been Jane's idea, and Hannah's glad it worked out, but she'd forgotten how much trickier work could be when she didn't have the benefit of slipping away on a business trip. Throughout the trip Hannah repeatedly steps away to 'take a phone call' - or a variety of other excuses to be elsewhere.
She tries to be around as much as she's able to, making sure everyone sees her relaxing and having a good time so that she can, in fact, say that she was having a fun time on vacation. Despite her best efforts, Hannah's a little worried people are getting suspicious. Between the phone calls, going off on her own when the ship stops at a port, and the fact her coworker Chuy happens to also be on the trip, there's plenty of reasons to suspect something strange might be going on.
Once she starts to worry that people are going to think she's up to something, she makes even more of an effort to be visible to the family. To prove exactly how much fun she's having, Hannah starts her morning by finding a shady spot by the pool with a drink in one hand and a book in the other. As soon as anyone approaches, she lowers her book and offers a grin. "Take a seat, the pool is perfect until all the kids start to wake up."
“Was that Chuy?” Luke asks as he walks up to where Hannah’s seated, though he looks more confused than displeased. By now he’s used to his family deciding not to tell him things — like Jane and Aegon eloping, among many others — enough that all he really does is sigh and pinch the bridge of his nose.
He finds a spot beside his wife, scooting in instead of taking up another seat entirely. For all that they argued and bickered, they did love each other, and having already had a few days into the cruise, he’s started to relax, becoming a bit more natural around her and the rest of the family.
He peers at the cover of her book, then raises an eyebrow. “Didn’t know you read that stuff.”
"Yeah. Chuy likes cruises." She knows she's not answering the question he's really asking - of all the places he could go on vacation, why does he happen to be on the same trip they're on?
At no point in their relationship would Hannah ever use words like laid back to describe her husband, but he isn't always uptight she's glad he's relaxed more than usual. Hannah rests her head against his shoulder. She should have expected that he'd find a romance novel to be an odd choice for her, and she waves her hand dismissively. "It's vacation." In the future, when choosing a book to make it look like she's relaxing, perhaps she'll pick a book she actually wants to read.
She grins at him, changing the subject. "Aren't you glad I'm always right? This trip was one of my best ideas. The family's together, everyone is having a good time - even you. It's been a long time since we've taken a real vacation."
“Should I be worried?” Chuy’s her close friend from work, and knowing what work is... well. He supposes he does have the right to ask if he should be worried, because it’s not exactly a coincidence, is it?
He chuckles as she rests her head on his shoulder. “But, really, Hannah? 50 Shades of Grey?” He likes to think he knows her well enough by now, and he never would’ve guessed she’d be into that sort of trash. Unless she’s reading it for some girl bonding with their daughter.
At her mention of the trip, though, he can’t help rolling his eyes a little. “One, you’re not always right. Two, I seem to recall this one was Jane’s idea. Three, I’m not too sure Ben’s having a good time.” But then again, he’s never seen their son having a good time. “But you are right about one thing: it’s been a while. When was it, before Jane went to college?”
"Everything's under control," she reassures him softly, though it's hardly answering his question and she elaborates: "I'm not worried. It's pretty run-of-the-mill. I wouldn't have let everyone come along if I was worried." But truthfully there's always a chance of a mission going sideways. When and if it's time to worry, she'll let him know.
Hannah's gone a little pink at his teasing about the book. "it's not very good." she presses a kiss to his cheek, and falls back on the comfortable pattern of returning the teasing. "I'd rather have you than Christian Grey. Nothing to be jealous about, Senator." There's zero chance he's jealous of a fictional character in a bestselling bodice ripper, but there's a much bigger chance that saying he's jealous will annoy him, and that's one of her favorite pastimes.
"It was Jane's suggestion but she was talking to me when she made it which means I helped." Does it, though, or is this some more circular Solo logic? "Ben doesn't seem unhappier than usual. I think he's enjoying himself." But it is hard to tell.
She nods to his question. "They grew up so fast." Now it's just Hannah and Luke (and Chewie!) at home, and that still feels a little strange even if they've had time to adjust to it. Having the kids around felt so familiar - especially since most of their time together as a couple had involved children. "I'm glad she's back, and Ben's around." She's missed having them close by. "You're having a good time, aren't you?"
Rey knows she should be used to this by now, but it’s her first time on a cruise ship, so she’s positively gawking at... well, everything.
She should be used to this because, somehow, her internship at a consultancy firm in New York has led to an unexpected friendship with a prominent senator’s daughter. A friendship that’s had her attending socialite balls and rubbing elbows with important people and serving witness to a secret wedding at the Niagara. And now she’s on an all-expense-paid cruise because Jane thinks she’s the little sister she’s never had. Who would’ve thought an orphan, a nobody, would come so far?
Still. There’s just so much of... everything.
She stands awkwardly on deck, unsure where to begin, what to do first.
Noise, people, lights and all the fancy amenities ...? It's easy to get lost in it and not have any idea of where to start.
Aleifr's feeling that way, at least. He isn't used to having quite so much luxury and downtime, and now that he has it, he just ... doesn't know what to do with it, other than start at the bar.
Even if his sheer physical presence makes him stand out like a sore thumb there, too, but when you're just shy of seven feet tall and built like a power lifter, you grow used to that attention.
Rey doesn't mean to gawk at people, but when you're a tiny wisp of a girl and there's this Really Tall Guy, you just can't help yourself. She's always been curious and inquisitive, for starters; that and she knows all too well the feeling of being the odd one out. That's simply how her life has been, even now that she's achieved some semblance of 'success.'
She bounds over to the counter and politely requests for a can of soda.
Ben was questioning why the hell he had agreed to come on the damn cruise to begin with. He wasn't a family type of guy, he didn't do the whole bonding thing that Jane had clearly wanted from this. He joined the friggin' army to get away from the family, that should have been a big clue. Yet, here he was, on some cruise ship, his family around him. Yeah, great move Solo, real smart on that one.
He spotted the girl - Rey? - standing awkwardly while he was at the bar and tilted his head. Why had Jane dragged her new intern along with her anyway? Poor girl shouldn't have to deal with all their crazy. He didn't want to have to deal with all their crazy, and he was blood. Ben groaned, and made an order.
A few moments later, he was standing beside her, handing over a drink - just orange and lemonade - with a shrug.
Apparently, they’re both on the cruise for the same reason — Jane. There was no refusing Jane. She’s relentless, especially now that she’s pregnant.
To be fair, though, Rey thinks the whole vacation idea’s great. Not because it’s fancy, no; she’s come to know how work and conflicting interests have kept the Organas apart for most of the last several years, but now they’re all in one place and bonding and just being a family.
She swallows thickly. Family, ha ha. She doesn’t want to admit it, but she knows deep down that’s why she’s stuck to Jane like glue. Because Jane’s the family she’s never had. They are the family she’s never had.
She blinks as she’s handed a drink, and for a moment she just stares up mutely at Jane’s towering older brother. The military guy, though she can’t quite recall what else Jane’s said about him — maybe because Jane had mostly been fussing about her husband for the past months. (Aegon and Jane totally put the couple in #couplegoals.)
Then she smiles, accepting the drink. “Thanks, Ben.” She takes a sip and nods approvingly. “This is good.” She practically downs half the glass in one gulp. “How are you? Having fun?”
Considering that all Jane had been going on about for the past few months was her husband, Ben was more of the opinion that Aegon and Jane needed to shut up and remember that there was life outside of being a couple. Also to get better at actually checking who they texted - it was not fun finding out major stuff via misfired text.
He gave a brief nod. "No problem, looked like you needed something to do," he added with a shrug. "Kind of... lost for that myself." There was a squint as he said this, as if the admittance confused him. He was pretty used to having a fairly scheduled day. Stuff like this did sometimes leave him at a loss.
who wants a prince and some international intrigue lol
Leaning against the rails with a serious, almost impassive expression, TK watches the sunset in silence. Most of the passengers have either gone down to the beach or continued to lounge around the ship's pool, but he's found himself a relatively quiet little corner on the deck where he can enjoy the view the best he can. The best he can because, well, his bodyguards aren't too far away, watching him and everyone else, making sure the crown prince of Hapes is not in any danger.
He might not look it, but he has a soft spot for sunsets. Hapes, after all, is nicknamed The Isles of the Eternal Sun, a chain of 63 small islands in the Arctic Ocean that linger a little too close to the North Pole. Its location has allowed its people to enjoy incredibly long days and endless fields of ice, and a vast reserve of natural resources such as oil and gas, iron ore, gold, and diamonds. Which means that though the Hapans tend to be isolationists and, well, snobs, they also happen to be very rich.
That also means his presence on the cruise is of interest, at least to those who know about Hapes. Because rumor has it that he's looking for a bride, and whoever marries him gets to rule as Queen Mother.
hi all meet Jane’s dad who needs to chill more lol
Chill wasn't a word most people associated with Senator Luke Organa, and truthfully it had been hard for him to distance himself from his work and his phone — but with both his wife and daughter relentlessly pestering him to relax and take a breather, it was only a matter of time before he caved. The women of the Solo-Organa family could be very persuasive when they wanted to be.
So he starts by taking a stroll around the ship, checking out the amenities and the attractions... and, well, locating the emergency exits and the life vests and the lifeboats. It helps to be prepared, okay? And as the head of the family, he feels responsible for everyone, including Jane's bright-eyed intern and Hannah's work friend. (Oh, he's aware of Jane's ulterior motive for bringing Rey along. Why Chuy's on the trip at all, though...)
He'll eventually wind up in the bar, because where else do middle-aged men go? It's a good place as any to chill, in any case.
