Name: Cadrien Boislevesque Canon: The Kings of Galenaea (original novel)
Info: * noble-born, only son of a military captain and an unknown mother * introverted, strategic * has military training and sufficient education; can even dance and play the flute * struggles dealing with women; his father is a known womanizer and he doesn’t want to turn out like him, but he‘s easily attracted to girls * bullied during childhood by the other noble kids for his unconfirmed parentage, but since he’s smaller than most boys in his age group, he tended to lose and get a beating * his nursemaid became a mother-figure to him, and he was closer to his nursemaid’s kids than the nobles; accordingly developed a soft spot for the weak and defenseless * at 16 was kidnapped but not ransomed, ended up being adopted by one of the leaders of the bandit gang that took him * values personal loyalty; if he has to choose between saving a friend or the world, he will let the world burn
I currently play him in his late teens / early twenties, when he’s still living the outlaw life, and prior to his return to his hometown and the events of Kings. There’s a reveal concerning him in the novel, which I also want to explore... but I’m not sure if I should already put it up here.
Name: Ilda Canon: The Queens of Apodeia (original novel)
Info: * from Mellifera, a small fishing village * lives with her parents, twin brother Ivarr and younger sister Ingride * usually works at their family’s shop in the trading town of Protepeo, selling fish and fish products * charming, perky, people person, impulsive, family-oriented * their kingdom, Apodeia, is ruled by a queen who is said to be an incarnation of their goddess, but Ilda’s been steadily losing faith ever since Ingride got sick * in Apodeia, teenage girls compete in an event called the Emergence to become the next queen; the winner is also granted a wish
I currently play her from early in Queens (where she is the protagonist), around the time her sister falls terminally ill and she’s contemplating the idea of cheating her way into the Emergence. Which is punishable by death, by the way.
Name: Sheifa Li, later goes by Cecilia Fermina Canon: Cardcaptor Sakura (AU) but played at Econtra then at Sphere/Vitaen
Info: * in her AU, the Clow Cards do not exist, the world is about to enter WW3, and the Li clan rules the Asian underworld * eldest of Syaoran’s quadruplet sisters * trained from childhood to be an assassin; she developed a split personality named Brynhildr due to all the trauma * always had a soft spot for her little brother; when Syaoran fell in love with Sakura, he came to her for help, and together they rebelled against the clan * spazzy and often nonsensical, but it’s mostly just a front * loyal follower, will obey and follow those she trusts without question * because of crossfandom shipping in Econtra, she crossed over to an AU of the Star Ocean universe, where Albel isn’t a jerk because he didn’t lose an arm and his father in the Ascension of the Flame ceremony * on Elicoor she became Cecilia Fermina, niece of Count Woltar, captain of Airyglyph’s Storm Brigade and lord of Kirlsa * known as one of the first females to join the Glyphian military; she first enlisted in the Storm Brigade, then went on to serve in the Queen’s Guard * her marriage with Albel has always been very controversial; she literally came from out of nowhere, and as commander-in-chief of the Glyphian military he’s the second most powerful man in the kingdom next to the king * has 3 kids: the twins Nausy and Marcus, and Fia * specializes in unarmed fighting and close combat, and support/defensive runology
I‘d love to play her pre-Econtra (hello apocalyptic Earth!) or during her early months/years on Elicoor, causing shenanigans and stirring up controversies. She’s from 2066 AD, but Elicoor’s essentially medieval-era Earth.
Info: * Sheifa’s daughter * bethrothed to the crown prince of Airyglyph, Arzei II, but they pretty much grew up together since her mom is the queen’s bff * charming, perky, people person * as the eldest child, she felt it was her responsibility to uphold the family legacy, hence her decision to join the Dragon Brigade like her father (although she also did it to prove that she’s capable, since it’s the most elite unit and people have died attempting to contract with dragons) * she and Arzei married shortly before the onset of the Second Torastic Religious War, and had a son, Marc Albert * Arzei started to go mad because of a rune that had been inflicted on him, but to save face, she made the people believe she was the crazy one; she couldn’t leave his side (not that she wanted to) because she bore the rune that would counter the effects of her husband’s * the rune she was given allows her to heal, and makes her immune to illnesses and natural causes of death * when Greeton’s mech army invaded and razed Airyglyph, she fled and went into hiding with Marc and the surviving members of the Queen’s Guard; Arzei died in the assault * few years later, she was approached by Vita (essentially the human incarnation of the planet Aquavitae) and brought to Aquavitae with Marc, to help save the dying world * she eventually married Paris, the Cajuzinho (essentially the ruler of Aquavitae, and the son of Jing, a friend of her parents in Econtra), and she was crowned Caipirinha; they later had a daughter, Kahlua Cecile
I usually play her post-Arzei - widowed queen of a kingdom that no longer exists, single parent, off to save a world that’s not her own, falling in love with another king while being tormented by the thought that she’ll never get over her first husband. Because angst.
For the record, mate---[Bastien begins with an annoyed sigh as he tinkers with the lock upon the cell with a knife.] This your fault.
[The two of them are in a jail cell. Correction, the two of them are in a jail cell after a wild night in one of the local taverns. A pained hiss escapes the pirate after accidentally nicking himself with the knife. Listen, he's still drunk from last night. Bastien needs a minute to wake up.
It's morning after all and was never a morning person.]
[ You got that right, Cade’s glaring at you, buddy. Sure, he’d had several drinks last night, too, but not to the point of getting smashed. It’s one of his father’s vices, after all, and he’s not about to start becoming like him. Not now, not ever.
He grimaces as Bastien nicks himself with the knife, and gestures for the knife. ] It’s too early in the morning to be hurting yourself. Let me do it.
It's your fault since you didn't stop me from gettin' all frisky with the commodore's daughter! [He says accusingly as if this logic makes a lick of sense.] You know how I get when drunk.
The lady didn't seem to mind but her father did.
[Bastien attempts to fiddle with the lock again but with no avail. He eventually gives up and hands over the knife after wiping the blood off it. This idiot cut himself.]
Meh, you might as well give it a whorl. The damn lock won't budge.
[ Unfortunately this version of Cade doesn't have spiffy healing powers, so you're stuck with that cut, Bastien. He takes the knife and tries his luck with the lock. ]
I stopped the commodore from decking you, didn't I?
Oui. [He mutters as he uses his bandanna to staunch the wound. The pirate leans against the adjacent wall as he watches Cade work his magic. Bastien hopes the lad will have better luck than him.] However, did you have to hit the man over the head with a chair?
[The pirate questions with a grin.]
Methinks you wanted to put the commodore six feet under.
Ha! [The pirate let's out a laugh.] Spoken like a true vagabond.
[Bastien says as he keeps his eyes on the lock. He lingers around for a bit before scrambling towards the door. If Cade can weaken the lock some, then maybe he can just kick damn door open.]
The plan is for us to raid the prison's repository of wrested relics and araments before heading to the port and hijacking a ship.
[He answers while attempting to wrest the cell open again but with no luck. Bastien gives Cade a look as he backs off for now. Soon that brittle lock will open.
Soon...]
After that, we make way to Tortuga and hunt for the scoundrel who stole that blasted map!
[ The blonde makes a noncommittal noise. He wasn’t trying to be all badass about it; it really could have been worse, had he gotten carried away. Another reason why he’s not too keen about drinking.
There’s a soft click as the lock finally opens. Grinning, he passes the knife back to Bastien, then bows mockingly. ] After you, Cap.
[Bastien almost cheers once the lock finally clicked open but quickly thought against it. They're in the middle of a jail cell after all. The guards are probably somewhere nearby.]
Good work, mate. [The pirate says with a grin as he takes the knife back.] Now let's get our arses out of here before we hang.
[He exits the cell first, knife drawn and ready. Most of the other prisoners were being held in a different block than them. Might have something to do with the commodore wanting to hang them. So it's easy for them to sneak their way out this maze of a jail and down the corridor. Too bad there's two guards on patrol up ahead.
Bastien let's out a sigh of distaste.]
We might have to kill 'em. [He mutters as he crouches low behind some crates.] Better them than us, I say.
[ Cade ducks behind the crates as well, quietly taking in their situation. Only two guards; they would have been evenly matched, if not for the fact that the guards are sufficiently armed and they aren’t. Still, they’re not completely at a disadvantage - they have the element of surprise. ]
Think you can distract them?
[ Given his build, he can throw quite a punch. Or he can just throw himself at them. Or a crate. He doesn’t want to kill anyone unless he absolutely has to, after all. The poor blokes are just doing their job. ]
Distract them? [He peeks over at Cade.] But with what, lad? I don't have my usual bag of tricks---
[Bastien pauses for a moment as he glances up towards the ceiling. There's enough climbing room up in the rafters for Bastien to try something. He's a decent climber, probably better than Cade. The pirate pockets the knife and cautiously climbs onto the crates. The guards are down the hall with their backs turned. Those poor blokes have no idea about the chaos about to ensue.]
Did I ever tell you that I learned how to climb from a troop of monkeys when I was a kid? Singapore had plenty of those smelly pests around.
[In just moments, Bastien is scaling the wall with ease.]
I'll grab their attention, Cade. You make sure to grab them.
[ Cade has to grin as he looks up at Bastien climbing up the crates. The pirate’s told him all sorts of stories, and they’ve bonded over that and some wine, but he doesn’t recall that particular anecdote. ] Nope, but it looks like they taught you well.
[ He peeks at the guards again. Still not aware of their presence. Good. They’ll have to time this right. And, well, be ready to make a run for it - after taking the blokes’ weapons, of course. It’s quite a long way to the harbor, and while he can fight barehanded just fine, he’s more comfortable having a blade with him. ]
[Bastien whispers once he reaches the rafters. He scurries up there hastily like some overgrown squirrel. As surefooted as any feline, he pirate inches over towards the guards slowly. He gets on all fours in a low crouch as he looms over the unsuspecting guards heads. Fortunately the blokes are in the middle of a heated debate and don't seem to notice the pirate in the rafters. Bastien uses this as the chance to reach for the gentleman's hat.
While the French certainly have a strong long for pageantry, the Brits here in Port Royal are no different. Those silly feathered tricorn hats always crack him up. Just who are they trying to impress with those bright white feathers? They look like little hens to him. So with a bit of childish glee, Bastien plucks the hat right off the guard's head which wins him a satisfied gasp from the man.]
Top of the morning to ya! [He says as he places the hat upon his head.] You two look quite well rested.
[ Cade has to resist chuckling at Bastien's antics. The pirate really knew how to cause a distraction, alright. He watches as the guards' expressions turn from surprised to baffled - and stays there. At least, for the time being.
Using that to their advantage, he emerges from behind the crates, striding purposely towards the two men. ]
Mornin', gents!
[ He'd meant to bash the guards' heads together, but the other one - the one who still had a hat on - registers his presence rather quickly, spinning around for a wild strike. Cade ducks, then retaliates with a punch, causing the poor fellow to stagger, his hat flying off his head and towards the floor. Good riddance.
The one who'd been gaping at Bastien finally realizes there's a second prisoner on the loose, but his moment of delay allows Cade to disarm him. In under a minute, he has both men out cold on the floor, relieved of their weapons.
He eyes the feathered hat on the ground. ] Never really understood that fashion statement.
[Bastien actually winces in sympathy once Cade makes short work of the guards. Seems that these Red Coats aren't morning folks either which does explain their sluggish movements. Now that both guards are out cold, Cade and him can finally make their grand escape without anyone shooting at them. The pirate says once he carefully hops down from the rafters. He still has that silly feathered hat on his head.] But I might keep it as a souvenir.
[He toys with the feather briefly before glancing down the next corridor.]
The repository is this away! [He pauses.] I think.
The cherry blossom tree was dying, just like the rest of the world, and Sheifa sighed, pulling her hand away from the trunk. She liked this particular tree. It was the only one of its kind left in Tomoeda, and she'd taken comfort in its survival, telling herself that, like the gnarled and wounded tree, she was a survivor.
It looked like her luck wasn't going to hold, though.
Shaoran, her baby brother, had asked for her help, and she hadn't been able to refuse. Nevermind if it meant going against everything she'd been taught, against the very person she'd been raised to become, against the rest of her blood family. Nevermind if it meant certain death, because nobody defied the Li clan and lived to tell about it. They would get her, and Shaoran and Sakura. Eventually.
She leaned against the tree, folding her arms as she waited - both for the sunrise, and for her brother. She had a few hours to spare before she had to report to Daidouji. Besides, whatever was going on, it had to be important; Shaoran would not have contacted her personally otherwise.
The redhead was alone in the tavern that evening, with only a mug of beer for company. It was impossible to miss the bored expression on her face; there was, after all, only so much one could do in a sleepy medieval mining town.
It wasn't that nobody wanted to hang out with her. She'd only been in Kirlsa for a few months, but she was already quite popular and well-liked - everyone in town knew how she'd defended young Mayu from a drunk Black Brigade soldier, and that she was officially the first noblewoman to join the Storm Brigade. But her ties (both personal and political) intimidated people, and generally made them uncomfortable around her. And who wouldn't be? Cecilia Fermina was the niece of Count Woltar, Lord of Kirlsa. She was friends, on a first-name basis, with Queen Rozaria. And she was rumored to be betrothed to General Albel Nox, the commander-in-chief of the Glyphian military.
She poked her mug halfheartedly. One of these days she really was going to bully Fayt into making her a communicator, with games and videos and all the entertainment options of the technologically advanced world she'd left behind.
Cade had no idea who'd thrown the first punch - it hadn't been him. But everyone else thought it was, anyway, and before he knew it he'd been swept into a brawl in the middle of the street.
Instinct kicked in. He defended himself from the blows, even as some part of him wondered what it was that kept getting him into trouble. He'd never been the type to seek out a fight, and it took a lot to make him retaliate. Maybe it was his looks. Aghorah did say that he had a face that made people just want to deck him.
He’d had a lot of combat experience, though, so it didn’t take him long to knock down the guy he supposed was the ringleader, and send the others running. But he wasn’t feeling victorious; he knew with certainty they‘d be back sooner or later, and in greater numbers. The best course of action would have been to beat them senseless, but...
Draven couldn't remember the last time he'd been in a street brawl. His sword and shield coupled with his height made him an intimidating figure, and regular street thugs often hesitated to cause any trouble around him. However, that afternoon found the fighter not only without his weapons but also without armor--who knew that a quick walk would have lead to this?
Still, even if the ex-soldier preferred fighting with weapons, his hand-to-hand combat skills were nothing to sneeze at. Grappling was something Draven never really mastered, but his brute strength more than made up for it. Looking up from where he had a man pinned to the ground, Draven smiled just as his opponent passed out.
"Uh...yeah," he answered as he got back to his feet, dusting his trousers with one hand. He had the other placed on his hip, but not in a threatening way. Draven's body language was friendly and open, although there was a worried crease in between his eyebrows as he looked towards the direction the rest of the group had ran off to.
Cade looked at the fleeing men for a few more seconds before finally turning to Draven. He was a little surprised that the brawl had lasted long enough for other people to actually get swept in.
"They were trying to rob that shop," he answered, tilting his head to indicate the shabby-looking establishment not too far behind them. "I'd asked them to step out before they end up damaging the goods, but, eh, someone started throwing punches. You know how that goes. You alright?"
It wasn't hard for him to tell that Draven was military, or at least had a military background. It was clear in the way he carried himself - and it was exactly the sort of vibe that Cade himself had, and had been working on to conceal.
Being a trading town, Protepeo had always been busy, but the approaching Pilgrimage made it noisier and crazier than usual. Stalls lined nearly all of its streets, selling all kinds of items imagineable - fruits, meat, jewelry, animals, maps, religious items, someone’s tooth, love potions, voodoo dolls. Name it, and a vendor in town probably had it.
It was Ilda’s fifth time to be in Protepeo during Pilgrimage season, so she already knew the ropes. She’d come to town with her siblings a full week before to secure a prime spot, and had stocked up on the usual bestsellers. Some pilgrim always left behind his prayer book, or misplaced her goddess statue... well, they were in luck!
"HELLO HELLO!" she called out cheerily, shouting to be heard over the constant buzz of the street. "COME ON OVER AND CHECK OUT THESE AWESOME STUFF!”
Shouting almost always worked for Ilda. It was definitely working now - people began to head toward her stall, almost as if someone had whispered into their ears and ordered them to do so.

He turned to the stranger. “You alright?”

"What was that about? Are you OK?"

ILDA • Novel OC
